Type of organization: Inboud tour operator
Organization’s activities: Arrange all hotels, transfers, excursions for outbound tour operators they cooperate with such as OAD Reizen and Bravo Tours.
Target group of the organization: All target markets in Europe
Company culture: Everyone in the company is very friendly and treated me as any of their colleagues. Management was very open to me and I could always ask for help if I needed it.
Number of employees: around 30 office employees and 20 tour guides
Dress code: uniform (with casual Fridays) though I did not get an uniform and could dress casual every day.

In which department(s) are you working? Product-, Reservation- Operation-, and Accounting department
I did not work in an actual department, I worked on my research and had the opportunity to cooperate with all departments. Especially, with the tour guides.
Brief description of your daily activities: Do desk- and qualitative research, follow tour guide trainings, join tours
Brief description of your company assignment: How can the tour guide contribute to exceeding the clients’ expectations?
Comment briefly on your supervision by the organization: I worked very independently with a lot of freedom though I had weekly meetings with my supervisor and could contact her always.

Requirements for students on placement

What kind of personal skills are required for this placement? I worked very independently on my own assignments though joined a lot of tours where you have to be very sociable as well as representative for the company. Flexibility is a must as life in Bali is much less organized.
Additional company requirements for this placement? It depends in which department you work, I just needed Word.

How did you arrange your accommodation? The placement company arranged an apartment for me in a guest house.
How did you go to work every day? Motorbike (but you can also rent a regular bicycle)

Do you need a work permit? Yes, but this is all arranged by Asialink Holidays
How did you arrange the necessary documents: I received all the documents I needed from the company and just went to the embassy in The Hague

General costs of living (monthly): € € 300,- /per month. Though I think this really depends on your life style. In general, life is about 2/3 of the costs in the Netherlands

What did the company pay for/to you? They paid my accomodation for me so I have no clue how much that was.

I did not.
Did the culture of the country influence your performance during the placement in any way? Bali is a very flexible island which makes you more flexible, just remember you have a job to do and stick to your planning 😉

Other information

Recommendations on what to do and what not to do: Work hard during the week and have fun in the weekends!
Leisure possibilities in the city/surroundings of where the placement took place: Bali is an amazing island with a lot of (water)sports facilities, beaches, nightlife, temples and so much more. Even if you get bored in Bali, which you won’t but still, you can go to one of the surrounding islands such as Lombok, the Gili’s, Lembongan or Java.
