Recommendations on what to do and what not to do: Be prepared that people will look at you because you are “white”. Especially outside the city. They will also try to touch you so try to be open-minded. Try to learn some basic Vietnamese. Numbers are very important, as very few people speak English.
Leisure possibilities in the city/surroundings of where the placement took place: There are many bars and cafes in Hanoi. Moreover, there are many shopping possibilities. The street food is the best!Try to do some daytrips like Halong Bay or Ninh Binh
