Did the culture of the country influence your performance during the placement in any way? Yes. They work in a totally different way, so you have to find a way to you need to find a way to handle both at the same time, the Dutch and the Nepali way. Other information

Recommendations on what to do and what not to do: It is an amazing experience. The experience to be on your own in a foreign country, that is totally different , is really worth it. You will learn so much by being there. Do not expect to gain much knowledge about the tourism industry and theoretical practices, but expect to learn how to work in a totally different environment with sometimes primitive circumstances.

Try to see as much as possible of the country. You will also learn more about how everything works in practice and helps you with your assignment. It is a beautiful country and the people are really kind.

Leisure possibilities in the city/surroundings of where the placement took place: The company and apartment are located in Thamel, the tourism hearth of Kathmandu. You will find many bars, shops and restaurants here. Do not expect to find many Western entertainment facilities and western shops but try to meet many new friends and enjoy your time in Nepal without the luxurious western facilities. There are many nice things to do in Thamel. There are many festivals, that you can enjoy.

In the weekends it is nice to escape the city and explore the Kathmandu valley, Chitwan, the Himalayas or do something adventurous, like rafting or canyoning.
