Information about placement organization

Type of organization: DMC & MICE
Organization’s activities: Making RFP’s and potential follow up for leisure & corporate files
Target group of the organization: Corporate clients and FIT’s
Company culture: Informal, if you speak Dutch you can address everybody with ‘je’. I was treated as a normal employee, no differences.
Number of employees: 10
Dress code: casual
Did the organization meet the agreements you made beforehand? No, because less time to work on school, but you do get a lot in return. It is definitely no internship where you bring coffee to your boss. So even though I had to for school outside the internship and at the moment it is pretty tiring, I think it the end this will be worth it.

Information about your placement

In which department(s) are you working? There are no departments
Brief description of your daily activities: In busy periods mainly working on proposals. In quiet periods everything from updating database, checking online publications, making pp presentations and whatever chore was available.
Brief description of your company assignment: I had to give an overview of which technical applications were out there at the moment and which ones were relevant for the company and how they could benefit the company.
Comment briefly on your supervision by the organization: You are treated as an employee, getting time to work for school is difficult especially in busier periods; you have to do it in between things. Eventually I ‘negotiated’ a half day, but at a set time. If they trust you, you don’t get a lot of supervision.
Connection with study program: Relevant

Other information

Recommendations on what to do and what not to do: Just be yourself, but be confident. There are some strong personalities in this company and if you are not confident, you will not have a good time. I was told that a former intern (18 years old) cried almost every day.
Leisure possibilities in the city/surroundings of where the placement took place: Brussels is about half an hour away. In Linkebeek there is nothing to do. I was lucky, because my roommate in Breda was doing her internship in Brussels so I had a place to stay on the weekends. Because there are no (great) public transportation connection in the middle of the night if you decide to go out. It is also easy to reach other cities. If you go by train order a go pass (usually its cheaper, ask at the company they can help)
