Organization’s activities: Cititravel is a leading Destination Management Company covering Spain and Portugal and specializes in the field of incoming meeting and conference groups.
Cititravel was founded in 1985 with headquarters in Málaga on the Costa del Sol. Branch offices which are strategically located in Madrid, Barcelona,Seville, Valencia, Tenerife, Mallorca and Lisbon. Each office has a team of professionals who will do the planning and execution of the most important events. They will help the clients to achieve specific objectives within budgets established by the clients. They will work together to guarantee the success of the incentive or meeting.

Company culture: Every employee has a own place to work on his/her own group, for that it is very quiet en everyone is working on their own. Although there is an informal atmosphere en everything is easygoing.

Information about your placement

In which department(s) are you working? Opertions department, there are only a few employees who do almost the same work.
Brief description of your daily activities: Different tasks of administration, operations, organisation and promotion like to take the phone, update contacts list, check, update and translate descriptions, to do planning of appointments and logistics (flight timings, hotel, public connections transport, maps) and to prepare information for the clients to visit.
Brief description of your company assignment: I had to work out a complete dossier for an incentive group. This means that during my internship I learned how the company deals with a request from a group and making a proposal for their trip. After that it I made a dossier, a proposal, for a fictitious group by myself.
Comment briefly on your supervision by the organization: He is very open, friendly and he learns me a lot about the company. I could always ask everyone if I wanted to know something or when I needed some help.

How did you arrange your accommodation? Through the facebook group ´Nederlandstaligen in Tenerife´ I came in contact with a person who want to rent his appartment for the first time
How did you go to work every day? My appartment was at 2 minutes walking distance from the office

Did you take a language course before you started your placement? No
Would you recommend to have a language course prior to this placement? Yes, It is not necessary to speak Spanish because all the contact goes in English but although it is very usefull.

The costs in euros

Travelling expenses (e.g. return ticket): € 300 (inlcluding luggage)
Accommodation (monthly): € 300 (most of the appartments are more expensive)
Local transport (monthly): € I was going by foot everywhere, bus transport is cheap for €12 you have a returning busticket to the north of the island which is a 45 min drive.

Culture

How did you prepare for the country’s culture?
I didn´t really prepare for this, because it is just an western country.
Did the culture of the country influence your performance during the placement in any way? No, but you have to keep in mind that you are in Spain en everyting is going really slowly and they take all the time they want.

Other information

Recommendations on what to do and what not to do: Sometimes there isn´t enough work to do but just ask for it and make clear that you want to do something. But you also have to accept that, especially off-season, there isn´t much work..
Leisure possibilities in the city/surroundings of where the placement took place: Enjoying the nice weather Tenerife has at the different beaches, terraces or the shopping areas. It is also worth to visit El Teide, some theme parks like Siam Park and Loro Parque are really nice and the north of the island which is a lot different than the south were the office is based.
