Recommendations on what to do and what not to do: Enroll at a German university to get the best possible deal on a train ticket
Don’t try to go by car, there are not parking spots
Leisure possibilities in the city/surroundings of where the placement took place: Düsseldorf is a big city so there are many possibilities to go shopping, go to restaurants, or clubs. The area along the Rhine is very scenic
