Information about placement organization

Type of organization: Hotel
Organization’s activities: Corinthia St George’s Bay is a 5 star hotel, which targets luxury tourists both on a national and international scale.
Target group of the organization: Leisure, MICE and corporate travellers
Company culture: I would say the company culture is quite informal. Colleagues communicate with each other in an informal way and it helps create a nice working atmosphere. However, obviously, when matters are urgent or the guests are involved, it becomes quite formal. As an intern you are part of the team and get some responsibility. The workload is not as demanding as that of a full-time employee, but you will have your own tasks.

Other information

Recommendations on what to do and what not to do: As also mentioned before, show that you want to learn. I mean, that’s the reason why you’re there. Ask as much as you can and involve yourself in what the team is doing. The people working in the hotel are very friendly and make sure to get to know them, you won’t regret it :)

Also, for accommodation, get started as soon as you know you will go to Malta. This gives you time to really look at al the different offers from realtors. I found my apartment through a Dutch Realtor, however, I think you can also find something without him. Good to know is that the transport in Malta is not like that in the Netherlands, it comes late quite often. So, get your accommodation in the area of St Julians or Swieqi. That way you can walk to work and not be dependent on a bus and come late to work.
Leisure possibilities in the city/surroundings of where the placement took place: For seeing things, get away from St Julians. The island of Malta is quite small, so there is no excuse for not seeing anything while you’re here. You can visit the main tourist sights such as Valletta, Mdina, the Blue Lagoon and Gozo, but you can also go places which require a bit more walking such as the Victoria Lines. And of course you can visit the beaches, bars and shops, as there are enough. For real sand beaches I would recommend Golden Bay or Tuffieha.

See as much as you can during the time that it is cooler and there are less tourists.
