Organization’s activities: Panorama operates tours for large Tour operators like TUI FOX and other international players selling trips to Indonesia. They are large but also flexible so they can deliver what clients want. Many tour operators choose Panorama because of their operational excellence.

Peoples in management have a different position and are seen as superiors by the ones they lead. You need to wear casual business clothes on the work floor and sometimes, when groups arrive, a white shirt is required.

Information about your placement

In which department(s) are you working?

I partly work in the operations and reservations department of TUI BeNeLux which makes sure all the TUI arrivals get their transfer, go to the correct hotel, and can buy interesting tours around the island.

Furthermore i work For Tripper.net. An online activity re-seller. They sell activities at discounted rates under Panorama Contracts.

Brief description of your daily activities: When it comes to the TUI department, i check reservation lists and see if they are correct in all the systems. I am responsible for the quality reviews of the tours that panorama operates for TUI, meaning that i file all the questionnaires about quality which come back.

For Tripper, i pick activities from the Panorama contracts and analyse if we can sell them competitively. I write activity pages for those activities on the website. I have contact with suppliers by email and phone.
Brief description of your company assignment: I research which functions at competing websites we can use in order to make Tripper.net more attractive to book your activities with on Bali.
Comment briefly on your supervision by the organization: The supervision is good. They are flexible to give you the task which matches your abilities. The more good work you deliver, the more responsibility you can get. You should be pro-active in asking for feedback on your performance.

Furthermore, they are keen to receive feedback and suggestions. They hope you can improve the companies activities.

What did the company pay for/to you? There was a lunch allowance to cover lunch and transport expenses. If you want you can join tours in your free time and evaluate them.

Other information

Recommendations on what to do and what not to do: Prepare for your embassy visit and be patient. Read carefully the requirements for the visa application and prepare thoroughly! Even though i had everything prepared I got send home because apparently, one line in a letter was not correct (this requirement was not stated at their website). So be patient in that case.

Negotiate about ANYTHING! Realize that if you go in low season you have a great negotiating position when it comes to long term rent of accommodation and scooter. Tonnes of guesthouses who are eager to have a long term guest.
Leisure possibilities in the city/surroundings of where the placement took place: Next to the countless restaurants, bars and beaches, there are a lot other things to do on the island. go diving, surfing, or snorkeling, Visit Ubud or climb one of the volcanoes. If you have seen everything, you can also go to the Gili islands, Nusa Penida, or just fly out to Yogyakarta, Jakarta or one of the many other places Indonesia has to offer.

When it comes to housing. If you like to meet new peoples and go to bars, stay in Seminyak or Kuta. Want to have a more quiet experience after work? Choose your accomodation in Sanur. These three places are the closest to the Panorama Office. Canggu and Uluwatu etc. are further away.
