I did not, but I have been to Italy many times and was already quite familiar with the culture. However, I would recommend looking into it before going since it is quite different from the Netherlands

Other information

Recommendations on what to do and what not to do: Try to learn basic Italian. It will really help you and they will be more willing to help you when you speak Italian. They don’t really speak English and dont really try to.
Travel as much as you can, Rome as well as other parts of Italy. This will really help you with the tasks of your internship because you will know more and this you can use in proposals. And of course it is a lot of fun.
Leisure possibilities in the city/surroundings of where the placement took place: Colosseum, Forum Romanum adn Castel Sant’Angelo are free every first sunday of the month. Vatican museums is free every last sunday of the month.
Trastevere has some really nice and cheap restaurants with nice food and good drinks. Cave Canem was one of my favourits.
Shopping on Via del Corso, this is the big shopping street of Rome.
