Type of organization: Bungalow Park
Organization’s activities: The bungalow park is renting out appartements and bungalows. The guests can enjoy the swimming pool, the 2 restaurants, the snackbar, a bike rental, a supermarket, a souvenir shop, conference rooms and the bollo club (animaiton programme for children).
Target group of the organization: Young families, and retired fit couples and groups
Company culture: There is a strong hierachical level between manager and employees. The company culture is rather imformal, as one can give suggestions to their manager, they will however not always be accepted. There is no assistant manager available at the moment.
The resort manager is the general manager. there are a few other managers for each department. In every departement the one who is the oldest will be second in line to the departement manager.

Back-office of the reception
But i also got to work in the technical service, animation, restaurant, reception, administration for a few days.

– Do the post

Brief description of your company assignment: Write a marketing plan for the two restaurants on the premises of the park targeting the local population.
Comment briefly on your supervision by the organization: The placement company did not have much time to host an intern. Especially in the summer season everyone is very busy. Many tasks I took on myself without anyone telling me what to do.

Culture
How did you prepare for the country’s culture?
I used to live in Germany so it was alright, the Dutch culture shocked me more. In the company are some Dutch people who are very direct and tell what is on their mind. Germans are still direct however very polite at the same time.

Other information
Recommendations on what to do and what not to do: In case you are put in a room at the bottom of the hill, ask them to let you transfer. You are very far away and can’t do much with the management. This is of course when you are interning with management and not technical service / facility management.
Leisure possibilities in the city/surroundings of where the placement took place: A bit of hiking, you might live with other people. Heimbach is very small, it rather seems to be a very small village. Everywhere you go you will have to walk at least half an hour (to the train station, to the village, to the next supermarkets…)
