Recommendations on what to do and what not to do:
Do’s
– Experience the Portuguese cuisine
– Visit Mercado da Ribeira, Time Out Market
– Wine tasting
– Get your personal public transport card called Viva Lisboa Card: I would recommend to use the ‘product’ Navegante Metropolitano for 40€ a month. Validity: Lisbon’s Metropolitan Area (consists of 18 municipalities).
– Always have some cash because at some places they don’t accept debit-/creditcards.
– Use the apps Bolt or Kapten. The cheaper versions of Uber.
Don’ts
– Don’t assume all people speak English
– Don’t go to ATM’s (Euronet) with your foreign bankcard, because they charge for withdrawing cash. Look for the ones with the Multibanco (MB) signs.
Leisure possibilities in the city/surroundings of where the placement took place:
– Visit Porto and Sintra (near Lisbon).
– Albufeira is a beautiful city to visit during warm weather.
– Nice beaches near Lisbon: Cascais and Costa da Caparica
– Rua Augusta is one of the best shopping street in Lisbon in the area Baixa-Chiado.
– Nice museums
– Night life places: Bairro Alto and Santos
