Brief description of your daily activities: Collecting destination information for new blogs and an updated new website. Adding pictures to the new website and writing blog posts about relevant topics. We completed the Travelife training and helped KFT to implement more sustainable practices.
Brief description of your company assignment: Annika: My company assignment dealt with the implementation of Travelife, a Dutch program introducing the concept of sustainability in an African country. Is it feasible to implement this certificate in Egypt and more specific how open are guides to implement it and what can they do?

Sara: My company assignment focused on making Carmacal calculations for Kingfisher Tours products. I calculated the ecological footprint of each tour and researched how Carmacal can be a useful tool to help Kingfisher Tours regarding their transparency towards their staff and customers.
Comment briefly on your supervision by the organization: Our supervisor Miriam helped us wherever she could. She made sure we had formulated a company assignment that will benefit her as a tour operator and bring us further in our studies. She was always just a text message away and kept our meetings effective and informal.

How did you prepare for the country’s culture?

Did the culture of the country influence your performance during the placement in any way? Since we could not go we were not able to reflect in full for our specialization assignment. Not being there made it difficult to write authentic blog posts and destination descriptions, which have to be attractive for the reader and should indicate experiences.

Recommendations on what to do and what not to do: We recommend this online placement, as you are flexible with working times and the amount of tasks is just right. Since there were no tours sold, we did not see much of the sales & operations department; however, you need to speak Dutch. All other tasks and special projects were feasible and helped us learn a lot about Egypt, as mentioned before the only limitation is the missing experience of life, culture, and society.
