Accommodation
How did you arrange your accommodation? I started looking on gumtree and got in contact with friends and people from different webpages. I found a nice accommodation via an agency but it’s kind of a trouble with the lady. A good starting point is Gumtree.co.za
How did you go to work every day? By foot
Visa / work permit / vaccinations
Do you need a visa? Yes, I just got my tourist visa when I entered the country and applied for an extension via Home Affairs after a month
Do you need a work permit? No. But just inform yourself before going to SA. There are current changes going on.
How did you arrange the necessary documents: If you go to SA with the normal tourist visa, never mention that you are working in SA, neither by entering the country, nor at Home Affairs. Just pretend to be a tourist. There is a lot of confusion regarding the visa requirements. Get yourself well informed beforehand!
How much time did it take to arrange the necessary documents?
Did you need certain vaccinations? No
Language course
Did you take a language course before you started your placement? No
Would you recommend to have a language course prior to this placement? n/a

I did not.
Did the culture of the country influence your performance during the placement in any way? No, not really due to the fact that the company is run by a French and hence there is not much of the slow-African culture visible. Anne Christine has a sketchy idea of how to run the company.

Other information
Recommendations on what to do and what not to do: Just use your common sense in SA. Cape Town is (compared to other cities) quite safe but it is still Africa. Don’t walk around at night, watch your valuables (as phones get stolen quite often) and be careful on Long Street during night.
But if you make use of your common sense, you should be fine!
Leisure possibilities in the city/surroundings of where the placement took place: Lots!
