Type of organization: DMC (Event agency)
Organization’s activities: Organizing events for big companies and making programs for travel agencies.
Target group of the organization: Travel agencies and big companies in Europe.
Company culture: I don’t know what the rules are, but colleagues do not associate a lot with one another. Mostly, they do not talk with the interns. As an intern you do not have a lot of possibilities. You can only do the things to help, the things that are not important. Therefore you won’t get to know how it really works for an employee there.
Number of employees: 60
Dress code: casual
Did the organization meet the agreements you made beforehand? no, because…. in the vacancy they show a lot of interesting and attractive activities (like realization of events on site) and they won’t be part of your job.

Information about your placement

In which department(s) are you working? DMC department
Brief description of your daily activities: Making PowerPoint presentations, translating them, searching contacts for the list, uploading things in the database, searching for things to offer a client (like restaurant, hotel, activity) and afterwards making a presentation about it. The activities are simple and you do not need a high level for this. You also don’t learn from them.
The workdays are the same each day and, sorry to be rude, it will become boring.

Brief description of your company assignment: NHTV assignment: Tourism Markting report.
Mandatory NHTV assignment: process management.
Company assignment: a project to help with an new smaller company under another name, marketing research and database etc.

Comment briefly on your supervision by the organization: Poor supervision. No interest in interns, no supervision in terms of helping, asking how it goes or explaining their own work.

Accommodation

How did you arrange your accommodation? I hired my room via IKGS (Ikganaarsevilla.nl), which was handy in the first place, but I would not recommend it because everything was broken and I couldn’t get away from my contract anymore. Furthermore, it was far too expensive for what you get. You can hire at least for a hundred euros less and have the same quality and size.
How did you go to work every day? Partly by foot and partly by Metro. Metro until “Ciudad Expo” and then you have to walk about 20 min.

Did the culture of the country influence your performance during the placement in any way? It was hard for me to adapt to the unpunctuality here.

Other information

Recommendations on what to do and what not to do: I would not recommend this organization. Interns do not learn a lot here and it is very consistent during the whole internship.
However, when going to this organization, you should not search for a house in the neighborhood of the organization because this is far from the center, it is nicer to live in the historic center, Triana or Los Remedios. From here you can use the metro.
When working in the company, you have one hour break, there is a cheap but great restaurant in the industrial area, where you can eat with your fellow interns.
Within the organization you should ask a lot of times whether you can do something for them.

Leisure possibilities in the city/surroundings of where the placement took place: Plaza España and Parque Maria Luisa, historic center, a couple of clubs and bars (in Alfalfa or Calle Betis for example), riverside of Guadalquivir. A lot of great tapasbars (for example Los Coloniales).
